Brunch at Berber & Q, London

A little while back I headed to Berber & Q in Haggerston for brunch with a group of friends.  My friend had suggested it as an alternative to our usual breakfast/brunch meet ups in South West London. Located in the railway arches by Haggerston Station, East London, and having checked out the menu before getting there, I was super excited to try it out.  Berber & Q’s menu takes inspiration from around the world but favours the ingredients and flavours of the Middle East, North Africa and the Ottoman.  Berber & Q say that whilst the food stays true to the regions they are from, they use more familiar Western cooking techniques such as grilling and smoking meats over charcoal. Yum!

I arrived early as I was told that this place fills up fast and whilst we were some of the first ones there, by the end of our meal the place was busy.  Something to keep in mind is that, Berber & Q is primarily a walk-in restaurant, however, they do take reservations at certain times for groups of 4-12 people on their Prix Fixe Set Menu or for those wanting one of their Shared Feasting Menus.

The Brunch Menu included three options, The Full Israeli (this is for two people), Red Shakshuka and Turkish Eggs. We ordered the lot!

The Full Israeli consisted of hummus, pumpkin chirchi, honeyed feta, Israeli salad, boiled eggs, avocado, tahini, yoghurt and date syrup, roasted beets and marinated peppers. Here it is below with everyone digging in!

The Full Israeli

The Red Shakshuka arrived in an impressive frying plan and was made up of red pepper, braised eggs, heritage tomatoes and coriander.

Red Shakshuka. In the paper bags were some seriously tasty breads!
Doesn’t this look yummy?

I ordered the Turkish Eggs which were poached eggs, yoghurt, paprika butter, spring onion and pul biber.  Whilst it looked seriously good, I was not all that keen. I didn’t like the yoghurt but this was a personal preference and it soon got gobbled up by the others!

Turkish Eggs

As we were being super greedy and loving the menu we also ordered some Hand Pulled Lamb Shawarma and a side of Cauliflower Shawarma, tahini and rose.

Our additions!

I also really loved the decor of Berber & Q and the fact you can see the open kitchen. I will definitely be back and would love to try their evening menu.
