My Top 5 Winter Destinations

If you’re looking for travel inspiration for this winter then look no further. Below are some of the lovely places I have been to at this time of year and I places I would highly recommend. There’s everything from beaches, city breaks, weekend breaks to long haul travel.

1. New York, USA
First off, New York. This is a city I absolutely love, in fact I’d go as far as to say it’s one of my favourite cities in the world. I went for a second time last December, having previously been in the summer time. New York has it all: shopping, good food, plenty of things to do and of course no one does Christmas quite like the Americans! I just loved the Rockefeller Centre and last year I went to a Mariah Carey Christmas Concert, super cheesy but AMAZING!

2. Tallinn, Estonia
This is a super pretty city that can be explored in a short space of time, prefect for a weekend break. I went in January 2014, having got the ferry over from Helsinki. With snow on the ground, it was very picturesque and I was very impressed with the restaurants there. If you are wanting more adventure perhaps you could tie in Helsinki too.

3. India
I travelled around India in December 2011. Places I went to include: Mumbai, Kerala, Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. This is a country that will assault all your senses, it can be hectic and intense but it’s a country that I would return to in a heartbeat. I would absolutely love to see more of Rajasthan. The weather in the South was perfect for the beach, it was cooler in the North but this was perfect for exploring all the sights.

Taj Mahal

4. St. Kitts
The beautiful island of St. Kitts is an all year around travel destination but November to early December it’s even better. This tiny Caribbean island has so much to offer and I was lucky enough to have visited in April 2016. Here are some of my posts about the island: My St. Kitts:  A Little Taster From My Time There and 20 Things You Need To Know About St. Kitts.

5. Vienna, Austria

And finally, at the beginning of the month I went to Vienna. I’d wanted to go for so long and this makes my countries visited hit 48! Vienna is such a pretty city and having been told there’s not much to do, I found it to be quite the opposite.  There are lots of Christmas markets dotted around the city at this time of year, wandering around sipping mulled wine will definitely get you into the Christmas spirit.  The architecture of this city is truly stunning so you can easily spend a day just admiring this, you can spend hours in the little coffee houses and a trip up the cathedral is definitely worth it to take in the views.

Have you been to any of the above places at winter time? What did you think? Are there any other destinations you’d recommend at this time of year?
